As part of our celebration of reading awareness week, March 2-6, 2009, River Ridge Elementary is excited to have students participate in a Dr. Seuss writing contest. Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) possessed a unique writing style that captured the attention of readers of all ages. He created new words and engaged the reader's imagination. His works are fun and inspiring to read, with his use of figurative language and imagery. This original writing style made Dr. Seuss a beloved author of stories that are still being read world-wide.
To participate in the contest, simply write your own poem or short story (no more than 1,500 words) similar to the style used by Dr. Seuss and submit it here; along with your name, your classroom teacher's name and your grade level.
